July 2023 Island Trip – Day 4

It was another busy and productive day. I got in a dump run, finished the mowing (hopefully for a while), talked to our AN about a bunch of projects when he came over to put a 6’ ground-rod in for me, went to lunch with my tenants, and then got the electric fence project 75% done before cleaning up to head out to Rusty’s for an afternoon and evening of playing music and catching up.

We were a motley musical crew. An acquaintance brought out another person’s drum kit, and ended up staying to play drums. He hadn’t played for 40-years, and did ok! The guy playing guitar, now plays bass. No one has played any of the songs we’re noodling around with in 4-years. We had a blast, and are doing it again tomorrow.

Singing that much after reacting to whatever is getting to me in the upper barn (dust, likely) and mowing for three days, came to a hard stop after a few hours. I’ll have to work on staying better hydrated for the next two days!

My introvert popped out at lunch… Lots of good company since I’ve been here, with more to come… Suddenly one person’s impassioned (and important) dialog, and the other’s, usually interesting, philosophical thought process were more than I wanted to engage in. I did. I am polite. But it was challenging. And the communication style of the guitarist/bassist was confusing me. We use words differently. He thinks arriving on the Island late is 4PM. I think late is 9PM. So, I didn’t think we were getting together, and it seemed like plans were abruptly changed. Because I was at saturation, it was hard to roll with. Being a high-functioning introvert, at least for me, is like hunger… I go from being just fine to not fine at all very quickly. Enjoying company to wanting to hide in a cave. Zero to starving. In a few minutes 😳.
