Keys

I have almost gotten through one bag of extraneous keys left behind by my parents. There are two bags. When last on the Island I was able to let go of a set of three keys, from the other bag, labeled “Deb’s Apt.” It’s far more complicated than one might think, when confronted with endless (probably a 100 total keys) Schlage and Kwikset keys, plus all the others.

I have decided to keep my mom’s university keys. They’ll be part of a scrapbook page about her career. I’ll let go of the old upper barn keys (so many!) after I make sure I’ve gathered them all. One needs the known source to check the suspects! The second bag of keys is on the island, of course.

I have tested all the keys in all the locks on the Island… Open padlocks sans keys, a little display case, a drawer, obviously all the doors. If there’s a key to a lock box that’s full of cash in a train station somewhere, well it’s treasure I have no way of locating.

There’s an artist on the Island looking for keys. She lives right down the road from the property. I’ll be dribbling the keys to her next week as I go through my troubleshooting/elimination process. Another 100 items my kids won’t have to deal with some day, tho they’d handle it WAY faster than I have 😂.
