August I 2023 Island Trip – Day 2
This is a copy and paste of my letter to Tim this evening. It kinda covers the details in a broad way. The only thing not mentioned is a trip to town for iced tea, groceries, and then dinner with my tenants.
Hi Dear,
I’m here. Spent the last day and a half working my bum off in the barn and looking for a couple of pipes.
The barn work is going very well in that I’ve decided to let go of a number of things that 5-years ago I was unable to. The estate sale is looking pretty good. Most items are priced to Moooove. A few things are priced more aggressively at ebay values.
The pipe finding… Well, I found out that they do indeed hit the edge of the house where I thought they did, and then they jump up into the wall at the sill plate. It’s a true mystery where they/it goes from the house to the barn. At least I got a work out from the whole digging episode! AN and I are gonna try backwashing this pipe tomorrow, from the house to the barn. I’m not following exactly how that’s gonna happen, and that’s OK. All of this in service to clean grit out of the said pipe to improve pressure at the house so the water heater will work all the time, not just when it wants to. This problem has taken on the magnitude (for me) that the roof had when it was still over 40-years old and leaking on my tenants. Now my tenants have intermittent hot water and grit in the aerators and shower head. Is this my mother haunting me?? Maybe I need to set up an alter somewhere with a 🍸 and a lovely neat stack of firewood. Oh, and something to represent the daily coffee shop run. Kinda sounds like a quilt, huh.
I am looking forward to a looser morning. I’ll probably go to the local quarry and pick up some compost for the perennial garden, test my electrical fence tester ;-> , make room in the lower barn for the ‘not-for-sale’ canoe (now in the upper barn), and then ask AN to help me carry it thru (it’s made from Kevlar and weighs very little), work on the estate sale signs (cause buying ones already printed are ridiculously expensive, and don’t leave enough room to write details that people driving by can read 🙄)… That sounds like most of a morning 😏.
I’m open for a fish slaughter Monday thru Thursday. Here or at your place. You choose!
Ms. Stella is down to a respectable 75º now, and I am feeling a little less oppressed by a day spent in the heat. Yes, I hydrated well, but possibly didn’t eat enough until dinner 🤷🏼♀️.
Let me know what’s the very best day for fishicide.
Lotsa Love
