August II 2023 Island Trip – Days 3 & 4 – The Sale

I could parse the last two days into fine detail, but I won’t. I’m too tired. Here are the salient points:

  • We cleared a grand. I am very pleased. Not just because of the money, but because SO many things found new homes with people who found value, and were genuinely happy to discover their treasure, whether is was a fifty cent book, or a $275 painting.
  • I saw a lot of people I know. It was great to connect. We also met a lot of people who knew my folks that I hadn’t met before. They shared from the simplest ‘Your dad was a lovely man,’ to the most heartfelt, ‘Your mom was the most brilliant editor I’ve ever worked with.’ These words helped me get through two-days of letting go of my parent’s things.
  • Tim came today and found a brand new handle for what he calls his “Poop Fork.” He, of course, hassled me about the $2 I wanted for it, paid up, and then visited for an hour. He described how looking around what was left of my father’s shop thing’s conjured up my dad for him. 💕
  • W tried really hard, but were still unable to give the boat away, even though it’s not our boat anymore!
  • I will need to figure out where the furniture we are keeping is going to live. The lower barn is going to be over subscribed.
  • Just after 4PM, and the last .75 cents of the day, I pulled the truck around and started loading it, inside and out, with items we’ll be donating to a local Island charity. It’ll take two loads. Tomorrow, as mom used to say, “Tamarrah is anothah day.”

No alarm clock tomorrow.
