August II 2023 Island Trip – Day 2
Today was about final prep for the sale. This meant a little bit of pricing for the items I brought up with me, and endless cleaning. It’s astonishing how filthy things get sitting in a building that isn’t used. As I placed items that I was asking rather a lot of money for on ledges, I realized how much I wasn’t seeing. Dead pill bugs everywhere. Epic spider webs. Critter poops. I just stopped seeing it at some point. As has been the case with this whole process (the journey of going through my parent’s belongings), there seems to be more and more with each layer that gets peeled away.
I cleaned until 2PM, and then placed the estate sale signs around the Island. This took longer than I anticipated, mainly because there’re few places to stop a rather large truck close to where you thought you were going to place a sign!
My DH boat rolled in on time, for the ferry. We hit the grocery and placed the last two sale signs on our way back to the property. Our neighbor to the east stopped in to say hello, and picked up a $2 item. After helping me fuss at the sale site, my DH headed to Stella to settle in.
There were a coupla kid riding dirt bikes on our subdivision road. Not a good thing for a dirt road that is community maintained. After their third pass down to the main road, I ran to the east drive and waited for them to come back up, and when they did, I took pictures, lots of them. The sheriff wasn’t able to do anything because ours is a private road… I am tempted to ask, “So, if I toss caltrops under the dirt bike tires next time they’re tearing up the road, you can’t do anything about that either?” 🙄
We had a lovely boneless log of lamb dinner that’ll keep feeding us for the next number of days.
