August II 2023 Island Trip – Day 5
The upper barn continued on its evolution toward a new purpose today. The aforementioned trips to the charity warren took place, along with the dump run. A rather large pile of metal is accumulating, which I’ll take to metal recycling on Thursday.
We’re discovering that the pump room makes a tidy storage area for the pieces that we’re keeping, without getting in the way of the pump equipment. That the pump room stays heated in the winter is a bonus! We’ll continue shifting the keepers to the pump room and lower barn tomorrow. Meanwhile,
I’ve posted a batch of items that didn’t sell at the sale on FaceBook for free. One has been adopted, and another two (pair of shelves) are being looked at tomorrow. There’s lots of interest in the shelves, so I’m hopeful. The tenants want to start leasing the building October 1st, so there’s a little time to finish clearing the building.
We are both extremely tired. Walking on the barn slab for three days reminds me of getting shin splints as a kid when attending the Native America art shows with my folks! I’m also very happy to be on the other side of this event, despite some tears today. Packing up my dad’s fastener, screws, teeny tiny hardware bits that neither of us have a working knowledge of tipped me over the emotional edge. And then after a shower, refilling the salt shaker with a minuscule funnel of my parents kinda made it all ok. As my tenant said, “Metal doesn’t have memory. It’ll be made into something else.”
Shrimp salad next, and then a drink on the deck with the tenants.
