Sept/Oct 2023 Island Trip – Day 2
The power came back on at 4 this morning. My little electric heater came to life, I peered at my phone, and went back to sleep. Zero hardship.
I spent the morning finishing a duvet cover for a comforter one of my daughters gave me some years ago. While elated to have the comforter for Stella, I’ve gotten to a place where I could take stock and think about what I’d like the bedding to look/feel like. Stella is all late 90’s oak and warm tones. The comforter is bright white and blue. The duvet cover solves that! And if WordPress wasn’t having a photo upload problem right now, I’d show you pictures!!
I took down the electric fence around the plum tree, and collected that last half dozen plums for my tenant who loves them.
Painting featured today with priming the ‘pox,’ as we call the plugs that the insulation contractors filled the siding with after drilling holes in the house to blow in insulation. I also tested out the new paint color in a couples of places . I’m a fan. Again, pics later!
We, my tenants and I, managed to spread mulch over the north perennial garden, and then empty my truck of the rest of the mulch onto a tarp. I picked up two yards, but think the guy who loaded the truck was generous… The truck is now parked with its ass end downhill, tail gate open, hoping for rain to rinse it out.
A family came to collect the cabinets I listed on Facebook yesterday. As they drove up I excused myself from mulch duty, and walked up to the barns. The dad of the gal who wanted the cabinets asked me if I’d bought the property from my dad, calling dad by name. I replied I hadn’t and that I was his daughter. He smiled and told me he was part of the crew who helped dad pour the concrete floor in the lower barn!! Then as we were looking at the logistics of getting one of the cabinets off of a table (super heavy), he started looking at the interface between the ceiling and walls of the upper barn. I wondered what might be of concern. He turned to me and said, “We do your pest control, and I was just looking at the spider webs.” So, today I met someone who both knew and worked on a project for my father long ago, and provides a service for me now. That’s small Island living!
