Sept/Oct 2023 Island Trip – Day 5
This morning was our subdivision’s day to work on our main road to help mitigate fire risk. We try to keep the road open 12’ wide and 15’ tall. A big impetus behind this is making sure our fire department can get up the road. Evidently years ago, there was fire at the top of the road and it was very difficult for the fire truck to get through due to overgrowth. The fire department told the subdivision, “We will not risk damage to our fire truck trying to get to the fire. If the truck is damaged before we get to you, we can’t put out your fire because the truck is damaged.” The message was heard and received.
I ran to town for a batch of errands, including stopping at the nursery for some dormant spray and BT. The control freak in me is going to protect my fruit trees from f-ing tent caterpillars in 2024!!
After a much needed, post heavy lifting fire mitigation road workout, shower, I drove up to our community’s matriarch’s home where there was a small post-thwack & whack gathering. Our hostess, who I have only met once, is a lovely dear woman. The sort of person who’s presence you kind of bask in. She told me how much she missed my mom’s care. Mom would call her every day, “Can I do anything for you? Do you need anything from town?” This did my heart do much good. She insisted I come up to visit, and I will.
My neighbor to the east came for dinner. She needed my wifi to do battle with her ISP this morning. She’s just back from a difficult 2-week trip. It was good to feed her some hearty soup, a good salad, and be able to recreate my DH GF baguette with garlic butter and Parmesan. We talked for 2.5 hours.
