Sept/Oct 2023 Island Trip – Day 8

The day was fairly easy going while still managing to cross a fair number of things off the list:

  • The compost bin sides, three board/side, come off here and there. I discovered this when emptying my compost on Friday. I asked the tenants if the board was off to make turning the compost easier, or if it just fell off. It fell off. The hardware situation in the lower barn is a little tidier today, but there weren’t long enough deck screws to manage a fix, so off to town I went.
  • I acquired the deck screws, and some Pad Thai to-go for lunch, but the best part about town is what I divested myself of!! The firehouse thrift shop took two pillow shams we no longer need, and the hardware store, despite a 90-day return policy took back a black metal stove pipe collar left by my roofer that my stove folks didn’t need, an didn’t want! I asked them to credit the roofer’s account. They couldn’t. But they were able to credit my visa. I know I paid the roofer for the part, so that’s OK, and the best part is it isn’t sitting in the lower barn looking lonely anymore! 😂
  • After eating lunch, I strengthened the compost box, cleaned up the channel locks, measured the fruit trees for their anti-caterpillar spring tule wedding veils, and pruned dead wood that was in reach with the log loppers. I’ll get the orchard ladder out and finish the job in the next day or so. I also addressed the rose on the tool shed. It was biting when I mowed…

Meanwhile at our Mainland home, my DH is entertaining his mama, and his aunt (mom’s sister) & uncle this evening. The three of them are headed here tomorrow. Not here as in the property, but the Island. My DH arrives Friday. I’m sure I’ll see the elders between their arrival and my DH’s arrival, and they are self-sufficient in a place ripe with opportunities to feed their outdoorsiness. But, I’m still gonna clean Stella tomorrow morning 😏.
