November 2023 Island Trip – Day 2

Before I got up, I had an invite to dinner from our neighbor to the east! We’re going soup and salad. I spent the morning doing very little toward getting goals complete or crossing things off of lists. I read and embroidered. After some lunch I got rolling and by the 4 felt pretty good about was accomplished:

  • I dead-headed perennials and pulled weeds in the beds across from and to the east of the house.
  • This led to getting the small mower out and mowing around all the out building and garden beds. This will make line-trimming much easier in the next day or two.
  • While mowing I discovered aluminum framed screens under the turf on the north side of the drier shed. If aluminum can rot, this stuff comes darn close. I am in awe that my folks would lean what looks like three window screens against a building, let them fall over and NEVER EVER pick them up! I know, I shouldn’t be surprised anymore.
  • I walked to the top of the road and back. The absolute lack of human noise was wonderful.
  • Two different people came to look at the table. The second person happily took it! I am beyond happy about this. It clears 15ish sqft in the barn, and someone, a family, can use the table. Win-win!
  • Right before the table adopter arrived, I was looking at the metal pile and realized it had changed configuration. The two tractor axels and the old John Deere (the one parts aren’t made for any longer) are all gone! I’ve texted my high school buddy asking if he’s my hero. We shall see!
  • And the couple who toured the house yesterday want to rent it! I’ve sent them applications. What I like about this situation, other than their lack of pretenciousness and down to earth sensibilities, is they want to start the lease now, but wont actually move in until early next year. This will give me plenty of time to deal with the wear and tear, and possibly have the shower retiled. I talk with the contractor on Friday.

The tenants came by mid-afternoon and loaded each of their cars. We set the actual move-out walk through time and date. My friend is onboard for being here for that meeting.

Time to make a salad!
