November 2023 Island Trip – Day 3
Lots of garden/property care today. The line trimming was necessary in order to spread the pile of mulch (yet to be done). I managed to make my way through the south perennial bed, around the rockery of both perennial beds, the raised beds across the road from the house, the out buildings, and had just started on rockery on the drive east of the lower barn when the line ran out. I took this as a sign to stop line trimming…
Next was to clean up the 4 x 14 foot pile of grass weeds the tenant had placed on a tarp on the east side of the wood shed. He assured me it was all meadow grasses and their root. BS. It was at least 1/3 soil. This explains the soil loss from the perennial bed, and why the plants, that the deer didn’t nibble, struggled. It was 8 wheelbarrows full. My back is going to give me hell tomorrow.
After that task I jumped on the big mower and dealt with the long grass edges where the tarp had been, and opened up two small additional areas. There was also some raking and hand weeding involved, as well as replanting 4 daffodil bulbs I found in the pile of grass weeds. 🙄
The locksmith begged off until tomorrow, which allowed me to take a shower sooner rather than later. After mowing not-dry grass, a shower was most welcome. The grass inundation was the sort that after washing and brushing my hair, it still had grass bits in it 😂.
The septic tank got pumped/cleaned while I ran to town for groceries. All is well in that department, and Craig told me it was time, and every five years is a good interval. There was an absence of panty liners this time… Poor mom 😓.
The couple that’s interested in leasing the house have positive credit/rental screenings, and I’ve sent them copies of the house manual and the lease document for review. I’m hoping these will bring up any additional questions they might have.
Tomorrow I meet with the locksmith and the fellow who refinished the east entry door to the house and tiled above the hearth. I want the north entry door refinished, and possibly have the shower retiled. Next will be some spit and polish inside Stella. Then my DH arrives, and on the next boat a friend of ours arrives. We’ll have dinner out., and then likely stay up too late catching up.
