New Year’s 2024 Island Trip – Day 4
We didn’t do a whole lot before leaving for some lunch in town prior to my DH catching two ferries. More on that… It was (and still is) raining to the point where I was kinda offended. A lot of what I wanted to do was outside and/or involved ladders. You will never find me on a wet ladder, barring an extreme emergency.
One thing we explored in Stella this morning was the idea of removing the drawer below the couch (that turns into the second bed), and replacing it with baskets of some sort. Baskets would provide vastly more storage, be far easier to get in and out of, than the incumbent grumpy and difficult to open drawer, solve the current issue of a partially broken glide, and get rid of a whole lot of ugly upholstery! One thing the drawer does to is provide some insulation. We’d have to design an insulation solution for behind the baskets. Meanwhile I did fit some neoprene in the small openings on either side of this drawer, and it’s helping. I’ve gained 3.5º in two hours. This was a cold air leak we hadn’t discovered.
The ferry my DH wanted to catch was delayed an hour due to a medical emergency on another island. We chose a restaurant directly across from the landing, and finished up just as the boat docked. The timing was perfect. The boat looked smaller than usual, but that didn’t set off our caution lights. I headed back to the property to take next steps on the shower, and some peeling paint. Around 1:15 my DH texted to let me know he’d be back in port around 2:15, and would catch a 3:40 boat that would actually take him to the mainland… 😏 He inadvertently got on the inter-island boat. I met him at a different restaurant where we visited until the 3:40 took him to where he wanted to go. He very sweetly said he was glad to have a girl in port to keep him company 💜.
I posted half a bag of mortar on Facebook, hoping to give it away. My carpenter/tile guy didn’t want it, saying he used to collect such, and then ended up paying to toss it. At least all there is is 25# if I can’t find it a home. Other small tasks happened… I filled up my three equipment gas cans, vacuumed Stella, made a pass through the hardware store (it’s not an Island trip without at least 3 hardware/lumber store trips), replaced the lightbulb in the shower fixture… And now I’m off to meet Tim for dinner in town. We took him dinner last night. One never takes for granted seeing almost 85-year old friends.
