New Year’s 2024 Island Trip – Day 7

Getting to bed earlier allows one to get up, without pain, earlier! I was up and on it early enough to catch the 10:30 boat, rather than the 12:10. My exit included tossing 30-pieces of firewood into the back of the truck, 25 of which will need splitting. That is my DH’s job!

I went home via my alternate route so I could stop in at the mixed media shop I love so much. The owner knows me by name… That’s a good thing, right?

I got home shortly after 3, and was warm for the first time today. It felt lovely. Part of leaving the Island in the winter is Not warming up Stella on the morning of departure. You want to know what temperature the heaters are going keep her at while you’re gone, and so to warm Stella up on the final morning would be a waste of time and electricity. Then my feet got wet tromping about outside in the shoes I wear between here and there. And yeah there’s a reason for wearing those shoe rather than my waterproof Merrills that live on the Island 😂! The Merrills have deeply grooved souls which accumulate lots of frass and stay damp. We want Stella to stay dry. Arid. We run a dehumidifier this time of year. Humidity can cause all sorts of ugly problems, and not just in trailers. I want the Merrills dry when I leave. Arid. So, this is why I wore my non-waterproof shoes this morning, ending up with cold wet feet on top of bopping in between a 53º coach and a 44º exterior!! And writing is so helpful… I will find a pair of waterproof shoes to travel between the properties with… 😏

And then there’s the incoming weather, which makes the heater settings all that more important. I checked the heaters in the house at the kitchen and bathroom plumbing, and the pump room. My AN is all set to check on everything next week. ❄️
