Truck

Today was supposed to be slammingly efficient. I took the truck, as part of what needed doing, to test my cardiac health. Yes, that means fill its almost empty gas tank! Regular gas is well over $4 a gallon. The tank is 40ish gallons. Do the math 😱😂. The truck had other ideas…

After leaving the post office, I headed in the direction of the recycle center. As I headed up a hill, the engine started making quite the loud roar, which sent my eyes to the tachometer. 2000RPM. This might not sound like a lot for most vehicles, but the truck is geared very low, and I wasn’t trying to power up the hill. It took a quarter of a second to realize my accelerator/throttle was stuck wide open. Thank goodness for brand new front brakes! I turned off the truck in the middle lane of the road I was on, turned on the emergency blinkers, and called my mechanic.

“Ry, Do you hear that!!??” as I turned the engine back on… “Yeah, turn it OFF and get it towed in!”

I was close to home, and my DH came to the site of the vehicular transgression so we could off load items from the truck to the Subaru. It was good to have an encouraging hug and kiss 💜.

It took a while for AAA to route the big tow truck on duty to my location, which changed when the police came across me 😏. The very helpful and sweet officer insisted that we had to get the truck out of traffic. Telling her the tow truck was on the way did not dissuade her from her duty. She followed me across the demi-highway I was facing, and into a hotel parking lot where I lurched into a parking space. She went in to tell the front desk what was going on. I was, after all, occupying a hotel VIP parking space. Always helps to have some moral authority on your side!

Three hours after this started I was back home via Uber. My mechanic has told me that he was able to get the truck to idle, and thinks it could be a sticky cable of some sort. My fingers are crossed.

I ventured out again briefly after some late lunch. Locally. And dropped off the donations, got a haircut, and picked up a crab and artichoke for dinner.

News tomorrow will decide whether I postpone Thursday’s Island trip.
