Jan/Feb 2024 Island Trip – Day 6
Slacking off consisted of:
- Sleeping in until 9!
- Pinging the glass guy, and having a visit from him! The low down is that we really need replace the sliding glass door in the second bedroom. He has spent a lot of time sourcing new wheels for the door, and they didn’t quite fit. He said he could spend more time researching, but could not offer any guarantees. It was when we were pondering the age of the door, at least 42-years old, and he told me the lock mechanism was no longer available, that I said, “Let’s replace it.” Then he addressed the bathroom skylight that declines to open. Interesting that it appears to be missing a simple part that disconnected the chain that lifts the skylight from the frame. This isn’t something that happened by itself, and I know the skylight opened last summer. I will leave this bit of info right here for digestion… On top of getting me a price to replace the slider, I’ve asked for pricing to replace all the opening windows in the house. I can’t do them all at once, but it’s time to start the process.
- I marked the remaining wee surviving trees I planted a few years ago with long aluminum poles.
- My truck will be sprung from the shop tomorrow. My DH will Uber down to pick it up. One fallout is that its wonky cruise control will be forever inoperable. This was such a mysterious malfunction. Our mechanic has gone through everything to diagnose and fix. Cruise control could be an unlikely factor. Off with its head!
- I started sewing the curtain for the dining room this afternoon. First I broke a needle, and then the sewing machine sounded like shit. Turns out I didn’t seat the replacement needle high enough… Why the machine even consented to sew a seam is beyond me… After taking it apart, dusting its innards, and putting to rights, it’s much happier, and tomorrow I should install a simple curtain! I hate fighting with sewing machines. 🙄 Particularly when I’m wrong 😂.
- My neighbor to the east and I went on another 2ish miles walk up hill both ways. I got a load of laundry done (something I will miss when the tenants move in!), failed to start the burn pile, but did burn up a full bag of paper and card board in the effort, vacuumed Stella, and relaxed a bit.
