Jan/Feb 2024 Island Trip – Day 9

We slept well and late. Ate a farmer’s breakfast and got around to working on lists after noon.

The tenants stopped by to deliver the security deposit. Even though they started their rental on December fist, I can’t legally accept the deposit until we actually go through the house. They got to meet my DH, and conversation soon turned to literature. Our collective neighbor, Sue, who the tenants are borrowing a car from, stopped by for a visit. We enjoyed chatting for a bit and then left to run errands. I said to my DH how nice it was to witness community. He agreed.

This retail outing was to source parts for the 65-year old, beautiful brass bathroom door knob hardware, and to close up the cat door, unused for 30ish years, yet leave a way for the tenant’s StarLink router cable to still get through what used to be the cat door. We are also on the hunt for a small compressor to use to blow out Stella’s water lines during the winter as we leave. The arctic express was scary. 10º is nothing to screw around with, house or trailer. What if the power had gone out… No heat.. And now we will move along from that insurance inducing scenario!

I finished the rose negotiations and my DH got the hose holder back on the side of the house, and spelunked the lumber pile for the cat door remediation project. We ended up ordering bathroom retro door knob hardware from Amazon, to be delivered here. I’ll install it next trip. We’re well set to make progress on remaining goals tomorrow.

The tenants are thinking they’ll move in late next week. They’ve been busy today acquiring furniture, to be delivered tomorrow, I will be SO happy to have folks living here again. An empty house gets up to mischief…
