Jan/Feb 2024 Island Trip – Day 11
My DH did a very brave thing this morning and cleaned the gutters on the upper barn. Even the 12’ ladder is too short to do anything but get you onto the roof so you can crouch while using a trowel to remove the stinky organic matter from the gutters. He found two very small cracks in the metal roof… Our roofer said we can clean them up best we can and then use Sikaflex to caulk the cracks. I really don’t want to replace another roof quite yet.
Soon it was time for my DH to get in line for his ferry, and for me to run to the bank, the lumber yard, and discover that my last hope to find a small 110volt compressor on the Island is dashed. We’ll buy a slightly larger one for our mainland place, and bring the little one we currently have up here.
I managed to finish working on the dryer shed. There was a much smaller crop of dead flies today along with a sprinkling of wasps. I think I know where the wasps are congregating in the building’s west wall. The propellant in the can of wasp spay I have is caput 🙄. I’ll have to get more tomorrow.
I got the covers for the Digital Access Port sanded and 98% primed, both sides. There’s just the unfinished area I had to hold the panels, on one side, to complete the priming. This is where I’ll start tomorrow.
I vacuumed my way out of the house, and removed a few more tools. I also removed the aerators on both sinks to find them full of mineral deposits (they are soaking in vinegar overnight.) This did not make me happy. I found that each time I ran the hot water, more minerals, but less each time, would come out of the faucet. I’m going to keep at this until I get sediment free water. I’ll also replace the well filter. The filter is six months old, and even though it’s had almost zero use in 3.5 months, a $75 filter is cheaper than the anxiety a grumpy water heater causes because it doesn’t have enough pressure. If that didn’t make sense, either go back to June 2023 and read your way forward, or trust me that it’s all connected. 😏
