Jan/Feb 2024 Island Trip – Day 12
The pest management company called this morning, and I learned about the dryer shed inhabitants. The wasps are queens waiting for warm weather when they can create new colonies, and the flies are cluster flies. Aptly named. When Paul stopped by, he sprayed the exterior of the dryer shed and said a bug bomb was the appropriate insecticide of choice. This helped me cross ‘deal with wasps’ off my list.
I got the Digital Access Portal covers installed, but they need more paint.
Changing the well filter was a little scary, but I did it! There are two scary elements to this operation. One is the housing with the filter in it is heavy, two feet long, and it unscrews into your hands, while you are crouching on the floor. The second is the red button… The red button releases water pressure from the housing before you unscrew it (water all over the floor), and air from the housing after you put the housing back and turn the water back on. The red button has a history of leaking water after the filter replacement. I spoke lovingly to this red button and it did not leak. The housing itself was pretty grubby. How do you wash something when the water for the property is turned off? Always have water put by!
After the pump filter operation was complete, I took a look at what was coming out of the sink faucets in the house. A couple of more flashings, and more more mineral deposits! I catch these in a fine sieve. The aerators are back on the faucets! Tomorrow I’ll take the shower head off the see if I get anything out of its hose. I am feeling a lot better about this.
I finished a second quilt block this afternoon. My intention was to spend a lot more time sewing, and getting this second one done, and then putting the sewing explosion away, felt pretty good.
My neighbor to the east and I went out for a couple of appetizers late this afternoon. Normally I wouldn’t have felt like I had the time, but between taking a later boat, getting a lot done today, and having a small head-start on trailer chores, it was a nice way to close out a busy day.
