March 2024 Island Trip – Day 1

The day did not start off optimally with the new trailer once again separating from it’s hitch. This time I was a mile from home and my DH came to my rescue. We got back to the cul de sac, and I managed to get to the ferry and keep my reservation. Further, the gent at the toll gate did not get huffy because I was not redeeming the reservation for 42’ for truck and trailer, but rather wished me a better day when I gave him the two sentence version of why my appendage was missing. All of this, suffice to say, left both of us stressed out.

By this evening, after a batch of communicating with a few people, we have discovered that the new trailer needs a 2 5/16ths ball on the hitch. We were using a 2” ball. 😣 We are so lucky that no damage took place. So very lucky. And when we get the correct ball on the hitch, we’re going to drive around locally to make sure the coupler and ball are really happy together before I hit the road.

Once here, I unpacked into Stella, both barns, and the house. I brought a replacement shower head and valve, and some patio items for the deck that we’re done with, that the tenants are happy to have given how much they left behind in their move from Hawaii. I’m going to ask my AN to install the plumbing fixtures.

The wind is ferocious here. Reports from the NWS say 30-40 MPH with gusts up to 50. I’m guessing the gusts are more like 60, with sustained winds at no less than 35. Why, you may ask, am I so confident in my estimates? Grew up sailing, spent time flying small planes, and have spent enough time on this property to know that we are warmer, colder, and windier than at the airport where the readings/prognostications are centered, because oh, aircraft. Stella is being buffeted about with the gusts. We must get skirting installed around her. At least it’s not too cold!
