March 2024 II Island Trip – Day 5
It rained all night, and continued all day. This brought our LJG project to a halt. Our AN didn’t want to try and move her into place until it dries out. Sinking either our trucks or any of his equipment into the mud isn’t recommended.
We are working on getting different insurance for all the trailers. The current coverage is wholly inadequate, based on original MSRP of the trailers without factoring inflation or appreciation. This morning I finished taking specific pictures the underwriter is asking our Island insurance agent for. I’ll do the same with our little Airstream once we’re home and get all the data back to the agent.
We had a very helpful conversation with my middle daughter today regarding my DH’s mother and best practises for putting her on a fast trajectory into assisted living where she will comply, and my DH won’t take “No’ for an answer. Mama’s can be formidable! The falls, increasing memory impairment, bills now being missed, her refusal to accept help where she needs it most… She won’t let us arrange transportation for her, so she walks, and she falls. It’s to a point where we realize there are the falls we know about… And one’s we don’t know about, and the one’s she doesn’t remember, like the fall and trip to the ER that happened here on the Island last autumn.
We each had our tasks for the afternoon. My DH helped me get a drip system set up for the newly planted trees. This, as all plumbing jobs, necessitated a trip to town. But it’s all installed! I got to remove sausage and cheese from the woodshed roof because the ravens turned their beaks up at their treats 🙄. My DH also filled the truck up with firewood, and installed some motion lights in between the barns that will increase security, and possibly help us get better pics at night from the wildlife camera.
We head back tomorrow.
