Electronic Life Angst, and Analog Relief
My phone informed me today that 114 of my passwords had been compromised. I was unaware I had 114 online accounts… This is not a great way to start the day, nor do I think this happened overnight. None of these logins were my financial institutions, but this definitely altered the path of my day.
It took three hours to deal with 34 ‘accounts.’ I handled another this evening. Some of these were my parent’s accounts (easy to deal with), and there were a half dozen from a former employer, who I am not going to pursue, as changing the passwords on everything else will render these accounts sterile. It’s interesting to me that my former employer’s security seems so lax, that my accounts from four years ago are still ‘active.’
Then there’s the issue that password change requests I make to various websites are not consistently arriving to one of my email accounts… I looked into this, and I’m not the only one. The ISP is kinda insulting in their replies to other’s queries on the topic… Think of the biggest free email services in the world… Pain in the a$$. And no, replies are not in Spam or any other errant folder 😡.
I’ll work through all of this…
Antidote:
We have our grandson for a batch of days. This weekend I have a lots of things for us to have fun with.:
- Feeding chickens
- Taking out the compost. This might sound funny, but when I put his banana peel in the compost bucket, he had questions! I gave him a brief description of how composting worked. Kitchen scraps break down and enhance soil. That it’s a little stinky, but worth it, and I’d show him tomorrow.
- We bought some herbs and veggie starts today. We’ll plant them this weekend, and also check on some peas I planted at the beginning of the month.
- I’m out of granola! We’ll make some more!
- We’re in the middle of a big lego sorting project. These were mostly his Mama’s Lego’s. She is smart, and would rather the 2500 small sharp object stay here… That’s OK! Ima gonna send him home with his choice of a dozen of her childhood plastic animals 😏. Hey, it;s Easter!!
- We’ll make Easter eggs the way my Mama taught me.
