April 2024 Island Trip – Day 2
My DH got LJG cleaned, situated, comfortable, and ready for a week of work! There were some discoveries… A couple of window cranks that need rehab, and we’d like to add a shelf to each of her upper cabinets. Her wooden counters glow, and the washable rugs my DH chose for her look fantastic!

We ran a batch of errands late morning. A charming part of the Island is that a larger number of businesses are closed on Sunday compared to the mainland. This means, I’ll finish errands tomorrow while my DH is working 😏.
We decided to try a local restaurant for lunch, that recently changed hands, and has had good reviews on the local Facebook boards. Our questions about the menu were answered. Crab on the menu meant some crab mixed with surimi. I can’t eat surimi until it’s explicitly gluten free. Their surimi was not gluten free. The waiter understood, and pointed out another place on the menu where there was a hidden threat. We ordered. The tea was tepid. The miso soup was good but barely warm. Then the spicy tuna roll came (Menu: Tuna, cucumber, fish egg). I popped a piece in my mouth and thought, this is subpar. My DH, looked at the dish and realized it had minimal tuna in it, and ample surimi. We made the expected complaints and left without paying. So far, 7-hours later, I have yet to experience any wicked side effects. I am thankful. I am also PISSED!! How the fuck do you serve a customer a dish with a product they just told you they can’t eat?? I’ve asked a friend, who is a professional chef, if there are any licensing regulation violations happening here. Certainly the restaurant is being cheap as fuck. I’m starting with reviews… Depending on what my friend tells me, I may call the health department. People have a right to expect the restaurant staff to tell them the truth about what they’re being served. Sometimes lives depend on it.
The cat was social this morning. We found him buried under our covers when we returned from errands. He remained there for hours. At least this is normal behavior for him. He declined a walk, and came out for dinner at 6, with encouragement. We decided to remove his harness. He had a good wash and seems far more relaxed. We’ll try a lighter weight harness tomorrow. This evening, with encouragement, he went out, but only long enough to figure out the direction of the underneath of the Airstream. We let him back in immediately. He’s currently sacked out on the couch next to my DH. 😻

I got the next swath of mowing done. We also adjusted the big weed whacker to better fit me. Most of the adjustment were done on the weed whacker itself, which changes how it rides when you wear the harness it clips into. Now my shoulders will take most of its weight, and the engine balance is far enough behind me that things feel smooth. I’ll use it tomorrow and see how this all pans out.
