April 2024 Island Trip – Day 3

Guess what I learned today??? Most of the businesses that are closed on Sunday are also closed on Monday 😂😂😂 (or closed for lunch…). While I found this annoying in the moment, it makes perfect sense, and is still kinda charming.

I was able to pick up jigsaw blades for my DH. He then discovered that the floor model saw he bought was defective… Some days are one step forward, two steps back in regards to this sort of stuff.

I spent a whole lot of time slaying grass. I think it was the first time I’ve used both mowers, and the weed whacker in one day. While it was too much, the place is looking great. My lower back isn’t grumpy, but my left hip is offended…

My chef friend wrote back re our experience at the restaurant yesterday. He said there was no actual breach of law re the menu descriptions, but that the whole scene was a sign of an establishment that was not destine to thrive. He advised that checking google reviews was always a good starting place. 3.2 stars. Not great. He also said the establishment would probably fail before the health department was able to respond, so only call them if I wanted. I did. They called me back within hours.

I talked to the health department guy for 20-minutes. He confirmed that there were no violations re the menu, and that the health department was very interested in tuning up the county’s restaurants’ communications about exactly the sort of thing I was complaining about. I suggested that the barely warm miso soup might be more interesting to them. He said I’d read his mind, and assured me that there was almost no time for bacterial growth in the soup between it cooling off and and being served to us. I replied that I figured I’d know by now if that was a problem 😂. He is going to pay them a visit because it sounds like their kitchen/communication is not being run optimally. I am impressed with the health department’s responsiveness.

The cat continues to do well. He still declines to go outside on a leash. He’s being a lap dog! And he’s sleeping with us. We’re keeping the shade above our bed open so he can enjoy the view before we get up. So far, not a complete fail.
