April 2024 Island Trip – Day 4
Today I found out that the local auto parts store does not want to recycle out big deep cell marine battery, and they had new windshield wipers for the truck. This will keep us from having an accident on a misty day, trust me.
I checked the apple trees, and they do indeed have tent caterpillars. They are teeny at the moment. I sprayed them with BT. The backpack sprayer is too heavy/uncomfortable for me to carry with more than two gallons on solution in it. I used a cart to haul it out to the trees and sprayed from the cart until I thought it was low enough to put on my back. The thing is clumsy… While easier to use while wearing, the inadequately (not at all) cushioned strap edge left a bruise on my right collar bone. This happened a number of years ago when I tried to wear one with four gallons… Lessons are difficult to learn at times.
I replaced an over active smoke detector in the house, after making sur the cooktop hood was operating properly. It was going off while the tenants used the hood and is too far away to be all pissy when there is no smoke/danger… Turns out the unit I put in in the the end of 2018 was manufactured in 2014 🙄. I opened the replacement at the cash register, with the good humored cashier’s nod, to find that it was manufactured in February of this year. The tenants made fried rice this evening. The smoke detector did not object. Win!
I spent time working on Stella’s slope garden. A lovely ground cover rosemary did not survive the 10º temps we had this winter. It had gotten quite large. I bought three different varieties to replace it.
Our neighbor to the east stopped in for a visit. She was excited to see LJG. We enjoyed catching up, and are having sushi (from a known source 😏) on Friday.
