April 2024 Island Trip – Day 8
With two trailers to close up, a cat to keep happy, a couple of extra chores to do, we have decided not to make a run for the 11AM boat. We’ll take our reserved spot in the 2PM boat.
We came home to cat barf last night… Something I knew was a risk, but hadn’t panned out so far. A cat who refuses to go on supervised walks doesn’t eat grass… He is a barfer and this episode somehow got me down. But I was already a little down because,
Even through we enjoyed out dinner with our friend, she is another person I know who has lost, or partially lost, the fine art of conversation. If she asks you a question (What did you get up to today?), you might get 1.5 sentences in before she grabs the room and starts talking about something related to what you just said, but it’s about her experiences. She’s starting to talk over your answers to her questions as well. Like, if you keep trying to talk, she doesn’t take the clue/cue, she just keeps talking. I don’t think it’s about being rude, I don’t think she’s aware she’s doing it. Like my father, I find this behavior very difficult to sit with, and it’s harder when the person doing it is someone you really care about.
Six Hours Later: We’re unpacked with the first load of laundry underway at our Mainland home. The cat is grumpy that we’re not letting him out! Past his 4PM curfew 😾. Before heading out my DH got his ‘cat baffles’ cut and installed for behind Stella’s couch. the one place we could not extract him from is no longer accessible. We may be large incompetent cats in his eyes, but we are crafty humans.
In one week away, the garden has put on its colorful coats with more to come. It was a nice welcome. As soon as the house is warmed up, I’m gonna take a proper shower where I can let the water run as long as I want. Love me my on-demand hot water!
