May/June 2024 Island Trip – Day 1
I got here just after 2PM and was on the mower by 2:45. the grass is 2-3’ tall in general with some areas and species stretching to 4’. I focused around the out buildings, clothes line, compost bin, driveway, the south side of the barns, did a couple of laps in the meadow to the east of the house, around Stella, and the center of the meadow below Stella so I could deploy our StarLink. I stopped after 5PM. There’s a whole lot more to go.
The truck was extra full as we’re still outfitting LJG, and I found two cases of cassette tapes at MIL’s to bring up. Stella has a cassette player and so adding to the old-fashion music library is a charming idea. They’re still in the truck… I’ll unload and take a look at them tomorrow.
Another thing I brought up from MIL’s was an overloaded grocery bag of disposable plastic and paper plates and bowls. Probably a hundred of each. Plastic cups too (a few dozen), and a small collection of plastic cutlery. I think this is something that made her feel secure. I know it was, in part, part of their disaster preparedness protocol. I’ve divided these items up between the two trailers, and used a paper bowl for my dinner this evening. Washing dishes with stitches in a pain in the thumb… So, why not reduce the number of dishes I need to do?!? 😏
My AN stopped by to check in. We’re going to spray the apple trees with BT again. The trees are all leafed out, but there are caterpillars. It’s not nearly as bad as last year. I may start my day tomorrow with some insecticidal soap to get a start on the little demons.
It’s been a long day, a long bunch of days. It’s time to watch an episode of my ridiculous show, and then turn in.
