May/June 2024 Island Trip – Days 8 & 9
Day 8:
The second best thing that happened today is I finished priming all the walls in the main space in the lower barn. This work, while very gratifying, has my right neck/shoulder (sight of an injury from my early 20’s) PISSED! While working with a roller overhead isn’t that bad in and of itself, it’s keeping one’s head hiked back for hours that gums up the works.
First best thing was having dinner with Tim in town. The place we decided to meet at had a long wait. The place Tim suggested we try in our impatience had zero wait, and the smoked carrots were amazing! I kid you not!
Day 9:
I got back on the mower today, far from the tenant’s laundry on the line. The orchard is opening up. The creek is running at a good clip and so opening the meadow between the orchard and Stella would leave a muddy mess. Next trip!
I met my neighbor’s gardener today and hired him to take care of mowing/line trimming areas around the house, outbuildings, and the driveway, sides and center. I feel like I did some serious adulting in this decision. The grass is a as tall as me in places, and it is not a given that I’ll be able to get here to mow the areas the tenant needs access to. Ha, life is like that… Moving my MIL to a senior community living is a perfect example of an important personal override. Knowing that the basics are handled is a huge weight off of my shoulders
