Triggered
This word has become popular. Too popular. People use it to describe what are actually emotions that they are uncomfortable with. That is not what being ‘triggered’ is. I was finally able to put words what the fight or flight feeling is, what it is to be triggered:
If your rational ‘out’ from a situation is to get in your car and drive, like a bat out of hell, across the next state line, you are indeed experiencing being triggered. Also, if you reaction to a situation is to bludgeon the perpetrator near to death because that is the only way to protect yourself or others, you are being triggered. This comes with sweats, tachycardia, increased BP, terror and a sole focus ~ to get the F*ck out of the situation.
If the situation makes you cringe, feel dirty/icky, cry, yell, feel confused, angry, sad etc… You are not being triggered. You are feeling emotions.
Class dismissed.
