March 2025 Island Trip – Day 2
We started the day by sleeping almost to 11AM, but not the real 11AM, the actual almost 10AM 😂. I wish we would just stay on one time year-round. Then we got around to having something to eat after reading and catching up on our electronic lives.
We went down to look at the deteriorating ‘rose box’ at the drier shed to assess what size the new one ought to be. My folks built the old box decades ago out of pressurized lumber. The spot it’s in is soggy 8-months a year, and the box finally rotted out. We brought up pressurized 4×4, and found another piece in dad’s lumber pile to complete a ‘larger than we thought’ box! The cool thing about this project is that we don’t have to buy anything. Lumber, brackets, and some very cool 12” long spikes for the corners were all in stock. I will work on refraining my three times a year eyebrow raise at my DH funky lumber collection 😏. This is what that lumber collection is for!
While my DH went to work on cutting pieces for the box in the upper barn, I stopped in to visit with the tenant. It was nice to see her, and we plotted to go together this evening to the concert at her church where her husband was playing trumpet. He plays rather a lot of brass instruments. The band’s leader lives here in the subdivision. The music was outstanding, and the small moments between each piece where the conductor shared intimate facts about about the composers was well done. We both learned rather a lot. The tenants headed home together. It kept a car off the road!
I head to our mainland home tomorrow to remediate our packing screwup… 🙄 It’ll essentially take all day, but I bet it never happens again😆.
