March 2025 Island Trip – Day 7
Things dried up enough by this morning that I was able to get some mowing done before running to the lumber company. At the lumber company I picked up 54 sheets of 1/2” plywood for the upper barn’s re-roofing project. One guy used 2 forklifts to get it into the truck. It was fun to watch! I was concerned about the truck getting up the hill and between the buildings with that load (about 2500#). Piece ‘o cake, in 4WD.
After getting some laundry going, I hopped back on the mower. AFter not too long it made an interesting sound (never a good thing) and then ceased cutting with its right blade. Not being a mower mechanic, I made sure the belts were on, the blades moved (while the mower was off), and the spindles looked like they should. The shop will send someone out Tuesday. They were very apologetic when seeing how much work they’d just done on the mower. I replied that if this was the worst thing that happened today, it was a very good day.
Then the general contractor showed up with his painter. The painter is going to start on the house on Sunday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This will please a certain someone in my life as it’s gonna keep me off of ladders. 😏
Managing laundry in March in a washer/dryer combo unit is an interesting test of my patience. I did hang everything up for a spell as the three loads got done. This machine is not terribly intuitive. When I push the button that says “Timed Dry” I expect it to allow me to choose how much time and a temperature. It doesn’t. I kept having to stumble back to a Dry Only Please for the Love of God setting. I think when you ask it to dry, it assumes you want it to wash first. It would help if I RTFM’d… Read the f*cking manual… 😂. For such a small machine, it has way too many settings.
In between the wash cycles, my DH and I unloaded the plywood from the truck. My new giggle is to call my roofer ‘Boss.’
I had to touch up my barn red siding. Coverage ‘flaws’ showed up that could only be seen after the paint dried.
We ordered up a mess of sushi to take over to our neighbor to the east, and had a really nice evening.
