March 2025 Island Trip – Day 9

After staying up until 2AM, we slept until past 10AM! We were mostly finished with brunch by 12:30. Sometimes we give ourselves the gift of a slow morning, without anxiousness about what we’re not accomplishing. That’s what this morning was about.

And then I got up to changing the well filter. This is a ‘delicate’ affair involving turning off the water, letting water drain out down at the house spigot, unscrewing the 24” filter housing in the pump room. without soaking yourself, washing the filter housing (one can draw water off the pressure tank), etc. Then reverse all the steps, and make sure the pressure/air relief button is happy (not leaking) at the end of all the steps. All of this was done to see of it would improve water pressure at the kitchen sink. The tenants haven’t let me know as of yet.

My DH went to work for a bit, and I returned to Stella and was lazy for a while.

Next up was trying to replace the propane detector in Stella. For some reason, the 12-volt wires for the device have no juice. They did when I abruptly removed the old detector via scissors, which had run into the end of its 5-year lifespan and was chirping in the middle of the night… We have consulted Stella’s ‘Bible’ and are not able to come up with a whole lot. The 12-volt circuit breakers seem to be in order, but they are also a little mysterious. I have a friend and a forum to consult.

At this point, my DH decided to take a nap and I went for a walk. I walked to our eastern neighbor to see if she’d like to join me. She’d already taken a walk, so we visited for 30-minutes, and then I took my stroll.

While walking up the road a large contingent of Canadian geese flew overhead, letting everyone know they were on the move. A moment later there was a much deeper ‘honk.’ I looked up and saw a swan flying overhead! This combined with a couple of duck sightings over the property (they fly like they sound – chaotic!) makes me feel complete about this category of bird for this trip! 😂
