March 2025 Island Trip – Day 14
This was the wrapping up day as we’re heading to our mainland home tomorrow.
I used the claw of my dad’s hammer to remove sheetrock in the pump room to see how extensive the wood rot was in the wall around the window. Not great, but not nearly as bad as I thought it was. A shop vac helped me clean up the entire space. We also got the replacement window out from behind furniture. Our GC will appreciate this…
The mower got picked up late afternoon, finally. The original pickup date was Tuesday. And this is a small community with limited service resources. Ya gotta be patient. This is not my best trait 😏.
We made a dump run today. Last week I let our tenants and neighbor to the east know we were making this run and asked if we could help them out (huge truck). Neighbor had just done a run. Tenants took us up on the offer. There was some odd miscommunication about the cost share that he quickly conceded to not understanding, and then brought us $25. I don’t think we’ll offer this ordinary courtesy again, which is too bad.
Our knife sharpener/buddy wasn’t able to get our ‘blades’ back to us, so I picked them up from him. He lives in a 5th wheel on a lovely property. I pulled in next to his car against a building covered with deer skulls including their antlers, huge rusty saw blades, antique hand tools… It was really cool.
The blue is finished on the house! There’s trim and touch up to do. This is such a HUGE milestone.

I talked to my old band mate who works for our electric company. There is a way for us to isolate the house’s electrical usage without adding another meter. This will simplify our lease with future tenants. It is difficult for me to figure out if our current tenant’s electric usage is increasing unreasonably given the increase of our electrical usage. Gotta be fair!
