March 2025 Island Trip – Day 15

As usual, pulling out went smoothly. On our way home we stopped and looked at trailers that would be large enough to tote our riding mower around (to the shop and back 😏). The cost is reasonable, and we played devil’s advocate with ourselves asking what else could such a thing be useful for, given that the bed of the truck is more or less the same size. We can’t get the mower into the truck. The angle of attack with the trucks ramps is far too steep. We were given a quote and will ponder on it.

Arriving home was not what we expected. The house sitter did not leave the house as it was left to them, not by a very long shot. Between the two us we spent more than 4-hours cleaning, and there’s more to do. I’ll be texting them tomorrow with a rundown, letting them know I do not expect a reply, nor for them to get defensive, and that the most important thing is we came home to happy, well cared for cat 🐈‍⬛. Thank you for that. But undoing part of a puzzle 😳, leaving a vape pipe and lighter on the BBQ, pee piddles in front of a toilet, a tub full of hair, the drier lint catcher uncleaned for many loads, the kitchen counters, stove and other appliances looking like they’d been wiped down with a dirty sponge, leaving a Navajo blanket on the floor 😡…. Is not ok. The list is much, Much, MUCH longer. So, this was a big fail, despite the references.

After dealing with the tenant’s cognitive dissonance and lying, arriving home to this felt like a gut punch somehow. I just want to disinfect my whole house as a way to reclaim our space. 😟
