April/May 2025 Island Trip – Day 3
The ‘big’ mowing was completed today!! I got the weed whacker restrung and took care of the the barns, Stella and her slope, and a chunk of the area around the fir to the west of the big garden. My timing was kinda perfect as it started raining in earnest when I realized it was time to stop. As I unharnessed myself from the weed whacker, and took out my ear plugs in the barn, the rain started hammering on the metal roof. A sound country songs are inspired by. There’s still push mower work to do, and some more whacking, but not a lot.
The rain meant I was done working outside 😏. A late lunch and a much deserved shower was followed by a nap with the cat. Our neighbor to the east stopped by after work, apologizing for waking me up. I told her that her visit was more delightful than a nap. We chatted for most of 30-minutes and then she went home to indulge in her own nap.
I got 95% of the grass out of Stella via vacuuming. When in mowing mode it’s impossible not to drag grass bits inside. It’s like finding fir needles until April (or July) after taking the Christmas tree down 😂.
I pulled out my sewing and chose 10 quilt blocks to work on tomorrow. The weather will help with my sewing endeavors 😁. I will also spend time plotting the best route for the two-state quilt shop hop I’m going to participate in late next week.
Yesterday my DH closed up a small void between the lower barn siding and it’s door. I saw a swallow dive into the space with grass in its beak… It seems that keeping birds out of buildings is an ongoing theme… 🪺
