April/May 2025 Island Trip – Day 5
It is confirmed that the washing machine works perfectly. 🙄 It’s last supposed transgression was twisting a load of sheets into knots when Mrs Tenant ran them through the washer. This precipitated Mr. Tenant telling me that he would be doing laundry at work going forward (nice to have that option). Today, during our test run with our laundry, she told me that the ‘auto-fill’ option had been engaged when she did the sheets, and because auto-fill doesn’t nearly enough water, it twisted the sheets up. Well gee, didn’t the appliance guru and I tell ya to use the highest water setting, like, fucking months ago???????????? 😡 So, is she doing this to get a rise out of her husband, who will then get a rise out of me? There is a mix of psychology going on here with the two of them that I am in no way professionally, or in a card carrying amateur way, able to sort out.
One thing that didn’t happen today at the house was to do some micro-grinding on a sharp edge on the second bedroom slider door frame. Last trip it didn’t happen because she was suddenly ill and contagious. Like go the ER and get hydrated ill. She then suddenly announced that she was no longer contagious. I was busy… Today when I said I’d work on the door frame while the washer ran, she didn’t say a bed and chest needed to be moved in order to access the door frame. I found that out after getting the load of wash going, which needed to be listen to. I felt a little trapped, but needed to be polite. Fortunately, it’s not like I don’t enjoy our conversations, but now it’s a tad fraught. I did not accept the offer of tea, kept my ear on the washer, and left as soon as the wash was done (perfectly).
Hanging laundry on a line is a soothing activity for me.
I had some lunch and then exercised the push mower for a couple of hours around the places the rider can’t access.
We’d built up a small shopping list, which I headed to town to slay. I also visited a sweet shop I enjoy and bought a little gift for my DH. He digs it!
After another much deserved shower, I pulled the laundry off the line, and then sat down in the garden to weed my mom’s rhubarb patch. It’s hard going. Meadow grass doesn’t fuck around when claiming its territory. I got a start, and hope to have time to continue before we head back to the mainland on Sunday.
And to that end… One of the ferries in in the spa for two weeks. 😂 This reduces our normal 4-boat service to 3-boats. So, we have a reservation on Sunday, but don’t know what the means right now! This is the price one pays for the privilege of living in paradise. Zero complaints.
