April/May 2025 Island Trip – Day 6

Today:

  • I spent a bunch of time working on quilt blocks. Organizing the block ‘kits’ remaining to do so I know what materials I need, and am focusing on one year’s shophop blocks to finish up and actually turn them into a quilt.
  • I weed whacked around the house and its perennial beds pretty thoroughly, then clipping grass around the address sign for the property and took a lot of dead wood out of the small fir at the east entrance to to the property. No ladders involved, just what I could reach from the ground. It’s amazing how much nicer the fir looks when micro pruned like that!
  • As I was messing around at the east driveway, a van slowed down and a gal asked if I was who I am 😂. She’s an old classmate who live very close by. We’ve watched her and her husband’s big house go up over the last number of years, and their building a house up the road for someone else. We caught up for 10-minutes. She remembered my mom fondly.
  • Our main road is being repaired. The heavy equipment brings out my inner 8-year old boy! I strolled up the road to take a look. The ditches are being seriously reworked, which ought t help a whole lot.
  • I started planning my next shophop trip. It’s looking like a 5-day, 23 quilt shop, 4-friend, BBQ & propane tank pickup, one cheese factory swing through 2-states, if everything lines up. 😁
It gets worse before it gets better!
They’ve carved out the ditch and placed the spoils above. It may not look like much, but this is high class compare to what it used to be.
