April/May 2025 Island Trip – Day 9

It’s fair to say, barring emergencies, we have closing up down to a fine science, even with a cat in tow.

The crewman who directed our parking on the boat this afternoon was our AN’s son. By the time we got out of the car he was done with that side/level of the ferry, and I was able to greet him, give him my condolences, and a hug. I also confirmed his mama’s phone number, which I did not have correct. As the ferry was pulling in, he found me and we chatted for a few minutes, reflected on his dad, and had another hug. I called our AN’s wife late this afternoon. She asked if she could call back as she had company. Absolutely! I’m glad to know she’s engaged socially 💕.

It’s good to be here. It’s good to be on the Island. I shared with my DH that I could happily live on the Island in the trailer, retreat there, as one of my darling daughters is concerned I will do. And every time I return to the mainland I am so grateful for this home too. Right now, as I write, the backlit big leaf maples leaves in the ravine create a shimmering frame for the water view. The iris, wisteria, clematis, ajuga, ceanothus, and others are in riotous bloom. The garden smells amazing. I am not unaware of the gift of an endless shower. And yet the draw to the Island is kinda profound. I think a good rhythm might be two weeks on the Island, six weeks here. We’ll ponder it.

On our way here we paused on the idea of a stripped down trailer as an idea for a catio. I dismissed it pretty quickly knowing that our kids would have confirmation of our Crazy Trailer People status… 😏
