June 2025 Island Trip – Day 5
After a late night, I slept in until 9 this morning. By just after 10 I had the push mower going and slogged through most of what I needed to use it for. By the time I rounded back to edge’s of Stella’s slope, (after dealing with all the out buildings, the house including its garden and under the pine by the deck, and then under and around the fir at the east entrance, plus grooming the berm at the east end of the drive), I was wiped out. This took two hours in the sun, and I neglected to have anything to drink before starting 🙄. After running the mower along the lower edge of Stella’s slope, I abandoned the mower, headed to the lower barn for a cold water, and then the upper barn for a chair where I sat for 20-minutes.
I did very little for the rest of the day. We had lunch at 1, the cat demanded a nap from 2-3:30, after which I felt much better. Gatorade and additional water helped, no doubt. Around five I took a restorative shower, and spent some time embroidering. We BBQ’d chicken sausages for dinner to go with leftover roasted veggies, and watched the final episode of Six Feet Under on Netflix, a show I can recommend.
The cat and I had lots of deer sightings this afternoon. His alarm is SO funny. We have taken to calling the fawns, “Murder Fawns!” This is how the cat reacts to seeing them. Big eyes and poofs 😂. Constant vigilance is the only way to describe the cat’s outlook for the Murder Fawns 🤣.
