July 2025 Island Trip – Day 1

Tim bowed out of being my body guard at the Andy Grammer show siting mobility wonkiness. And it’s just as well as parking was challenging, and the round trip stroll was at least a mile, with significant elevation changes, from where I was directed to leave the truck to the venue, over not a lot of pavement. I’ll share the music with Tim. I think he’ll dig it!

The show was really great. The artist knows how to connect with his crowd. The audience, probably 2000, was full of families, lots of young folks, and those my senior by decades. Mr. Grammer appeals to many generations. So, a delight of the show, for me, was watching such a diverse age group loving the same music. At the conclusion of the show, being next to the water, many audience members left by small boat! Kayak to small motorized skiff.

Settling in to Stella went well. One thing that I wanted to check on was her electrical connection where she’s plugged into the utility box. I have subscribed to a number of RV Facebook boards, and there are horror stories about electrical problems: Malfunctions to fire. I’m happy to report that Stella’s 30amp cord is solidly seated under it’s locked electrical box, and cool and a cucumber.

A deer is hanging out under the lower barn’s overhang. I disturbed it twice today. There are hoof marks in the dust. Twice I scolded the animal as it galloped away to the woods, “G’on! What’s under there for you??” The answer is nothing except for a dry place when it rains, which it hasn’t done for a while. No grass to graze. Maybe they like to roll in dust!

I was surprised to see that I’m almost out of propane. I haven’t taken the (2-20#) tanks to be refilled in over a year, so no wonder. I nuked water in my capacious ceramic mug to take care of the few dishes I had to wash this evening. Yeah, there’s probably enough propane to get the water tank hot, and then that’d be that… I’d rather save the last sip in the tank in case I want to cook an egg tomorrow morning 😏. And I took a shower today, intend to get dirty tomorrow, and so won’t need hot water until after my labors. So there!😁 This is, as mom would have said, “Life in the sticks!”

I walked the ‘orchard.’ All the apples, including the full-sized yellow, are full of fruit. There are no signs of tent caterpillars, thank God. The plumb is doing well. After reviewing pictures of where we placed the grounding rod for the electric fence (raccoon deterrent) for the plumb, I can’t find it… I have to be close, but stepping carefully over the ground hoping to find it with my feet isn’t doing the job. Tomorrow I’ll mow the area really short and go from there.

The yellow apple is over 15-feet tall. While this pic doesn’t show it well, it’s dripping in apples!
