Yoga
I attend yoga twice a week to recenter, calm myself (if needed), relax, stretch, strengthen, improve balance and be in the moment. It checks all the boxes. There are two regular instructors, whose styles work really well. I always walk out of class feeling better than when I walked in.
Twice now there has been a substitute. Her approach to yoga is more of a serious workout. While I have been humbled by yoga classes in the past, I have never been sore for days, as I am now… I swim for my actual ‘exercise.’ Yoga is a different jam for me. On top of her generally aggressive flow, she is extremely perky about the community announcements, trying to engage us in her excitement about being in the local parade or walking to the pub for lunch (not my idea of finding a calm place before my yoga practice), and instructs us (opposite of our other instructors) to inhale through our noses, and then out through our mouths, which she does, amplified by a microphone, with aloud hissing “Haaaaaaaaaa.”
After the first class with her, I had determined not to attend another. This week, I was already in the studio, ready to go when she suddenly showed up. I will be more careful to look for our regular instructors in the future before settling in.
