August 2025 Island Trip – Day 1

OHMIGAWD!!! Fucking Mice!!!! Stella has been here for almost 5-years, and nothing, not a sign of the little fuckers. We get in today, and the signs are everywhere. Well, not in the upper cabinets, or the big wardrobe. It makes me want to rip out all the cabinetry and replace it with standalone pieces that are inaccessible from their backsides… after washing 100’s of things, I took a run to town to replace certain items we tossed, buy glass based Tupperware to place thing in, and to buy all the mouse irradication supplies I could lay my hands on, sans actual poison as our cat is with us. On the up side, our mightly hunter is completely unimpressed with the possibility of a rodent anywhere in the coach. This is the cat who carries live baby bunnies 12-feet up a fir tree to present them to us at the dining room door. Snags voles, mice, and shrews for us, sometimes even spitting out live mice in front of us. We are poor hunters… I don’t think the offending rodent is still in the trailer. 🤞

We’ve got the majority of the kitchen taken care of. The bedding is washed (they have no shame), and we’ve tossed a lot of things (including some Mikasa enameled steel bowls that were just too chipped to keep) , that in retrospect, we haven’t used, or were past their expiration date by, oh, three years… Nothing is going back in cupboards that isn’t fully ensconced in a protective vessel (unless it’s canned) of some sort or another, including food, q-tips, and TP. It takes a LOT to twig me out, and this is it 😡.

In other news, we strolled into the orchard and dang do we have fruit!

This is an unknown apple type. It is ‘deer pruned.’ I’ll clean up the dead branches and harvest.
Here are my pruners…
Two of the three Akane apples. The third, not in this shot, is most ripe and ready to harvest.
