August 2025 Island Trip – Day 7
Not necessarily in order, we:
- Finished picking what fruit we could this afternoon. My inner cave girl is delighted and will spend next week happily putting food by.
- We caught the Island museum’s show. It was contemporary Native American art, and was breathtaking.
- We also stopped at the hardware store to buy a couple of big totes to store all the things that live in spaces where we found mouse evidence when we arrived. The oven, microwave, and cabinets that were unaffected will augment this plan. If they get back in I can deal with the cleanup, but I would rather not have to clean up all of our things. This will be onerous and add time to arriving and leaving. However, should the mice throw another party in Stella, I won’t have to clean every dish, utensil, pot, pan, glass jar of everything that was in the areas they did their limbo competitions. 🙄 We will also set baited snap traps as we leave, placing them on washable mats.
- I did more mowing. Half the east field (things just aren’t growing at this point in the year), around the house, and the north of Stella’s field. There was no opportunity to weed whack, not did I want to beat myself up via line trimmer…
- On our way home from town we popped into Tim’s who gave us a 45-year old bottle of port for our anniversary! He’s pretty sure it’s past its best by date! It’s the thought that counts. It’s like an artifact! At some point we’ll filter it and take a tentative taste. He too is heading for his mainland home tomorrow. His journey is longer than ours.
- Late this afternoon the tenants asked if our cat wanted a felted cat cave. Their cat doesn’t do enclosed spaces. My DH and I talked about the offer for a minute and thought, “Sure!” Pictures below.
