November 2025 Island Trip – Day 3

I am starting my days a little slower. I started a book this morning, “Wintering.” It’s almost like I was suppose to start reading this book this week. It was a last minute grab off the shelf as I headed out on Wednesday.

Lots happened today, that I did very little of:

  • The water heater at the house was serviced. This plugged up the washer’s inlet hoses, which was discovered by the tenant when she next tried to do wash. The guys came back out right away and things are working fine again. Did I mention the high mineral content of the water???
  • The pest control folks came around and did their quarterly work. The bait stations under Stella were empty!
  • The guys (same who serviced the water heater) loaded my truck with firewood. They have endless skills.
  • We also discussed the jacks for Stella. Not as easy an install as we hoped. We’re working it, and meanwhile should two tires fail on one side, she would come to rest on the current jack which is about an inch lower than where it should be. So, while that wouldn’t be great, it wouldn’t be a structural disaster.
  • We also discussed having them finish painting the lower barn ceiling for me. One of the guys is a seasoned painter and my friend thinks it can be knocked out very quickly. He knows where the paint and key are!
  • I removed 1999 foam gaskets from the hatches for the water and electrical inlets to the trailer. They were essentially dust. With citrus Goo Gone they practically removed themselves. I have leftover peel ‘n stick rubber gaskets material that will be a nice upgrade, and hopefully a better mouse deterrent.
  • I kept on working on my fan cover. I’m having to sew the magnets into place by hand as they and the sewing machine’s needle plate don’t play well together! Each time I got settled to work on the cover, something/one would need my attention. It’s coming along.
  • I got to town to run a few errands late morning. If everything goes well, I won’t have to leave the property until I head out to catch the ferry.
The wood I did not load!
