‘25/‘26 New Year’s Island Trip – Day 1

The drive to the ferry alternated between fog as thick as pea soup, and brilliant sunshine. It was kinda wonderful! Stella continues to be mouse free. I am saying prayers to the correct lesser-Gods. I don’t think God has time in their schedule to influence our mouse concerns, so I send my requests to those in charge of such things… “Please, oh God of Mouseless Trailer Living, I have done all the anti-mouse things, worked hard on rodent exclusion, made my tithe to the local hardware store, and Amazon, for all the mouse repellant products, and lost more sleep than required to be considered for the gift of a mouse free house (trailer). Of thee I ask this favor.” Seems to have worked, three times in a row 🙏.

I took a New Year’s gift to Mrs. Tenant, listened to her set up for the skylight leak, and then shut it down with the construction details of the house’s ceiling-to-roof. To explain this would take diagrams and paragraphs… Let’s just say that a verified non-leaking roof is not seeping water between the interior wood framing of the skylight, and the car-deck ceiling that surrounds it, between which is essentially solid (no attic) construction. She backed right down.

Our neighbor to the east stopped by. We had a lovely visit, she’s joining us for dinner at our fav restaurant tomorrow night, and is up for visits and walks for the next few days 💕.

The work in the lower barn is looking incredible! Our friend used an oil based primer to go over the sheetrock where the tar from the vertical support beams seeped through my many coats of latex primer and paint. It looks perfect! 😳 I didn’t know the space could look better than ‘good enough.’ And from where I started, Good Enough was fine with me! This is so much better. Pics to follow. The other thing about walking into the space is that the guys had to move many things around in order to do their work. It’s opened up my eyes regarding possible arrangement and placement of core shelving and work surfaces. I feel like a kid in a candy shop… Everything is possible, nothing is cast in concrete except the floor 😏
