March 2026 Island Trip – Day 2

Last night was one of those nights where I woke up at 4am and was fully conscious until at least 7 🙄. This was, in part, that the circuit panel, which is housed above my side of the bed, was cycling. A quiet intermittent hum. This is not the first time I’ve heard this. Our late AN told me what it was a few years ago. Do I recall what he said? Absolutely not. All I remember is that it wasn’t anything dangerous. Just annoying, and boy was it annoying early this morning. Once I got up, I pushed on each individual circuit breaker (I do recall this) and figured out which one was humming. It’s the one that the inverter is on. Now I know what to research. The inverter takes the incoming 110 power and converts it to 12-volt for all the 12-volt items in the trailer. It also keep the two huge batteries charged and conditioned. What’s interesting is that when the former batteries were in their last throws of life, the inverter was always running. I could hear its fan. I lives under the couch… The inverter is quiet. This shit makes me crazy, and keeps me up in the wee hours. During these early hours I also planned what we’re cooking for dinner right now…. Flank steak, roast potatoes, brussel sprouts, cherry tomatoes, and garlic.

Our general contractor stopped by to discuss drainage from the new and improved gutters on the barns. We’re going to run the drain lines to a sump in the garden. We also got a lot of gravel moved around under the lower barn overhang, which meant moving leftover plywood into the upper barn. I took a short mushy mow (the place is still very wet despite the beautiful day), we got some art hung back up on the lower barn walls. Lots of gratifying tasks completed. And now a delicious dinner.

We ran two additional lengths of landscape cloth at the end of the day and put enough gravel on it to make it wind-proof.
