March 2026 Island Trip – Day 5

Today continues to be more serene… Even the weather, which was predicted to be ferocious, enough so that I placed a bucket of water on the built-in shower seat for flushing the loo, less we lose power. No power, no water!

I headed out to the Huge second hand emporium this morning and found a door that will go in between the pump room and greater lower barn space, and a super cool plum colored wrought iron chair for my DH for outside his office. We also donate our aluminum cans there. They take them and turn them into money.

Upon my return I spent time consolidating the remaining roofing metal and old gutters into a pile that the reported 50 MPH gusts wouldn’t send all over the property overnight… There were four whole pieces of roofing material left that I can make a couple of raised planting beds out of. An old Islander stopped by to pickup a batch of redundant tools we don’t need. He charmed me with stories of his grandson sneaking wrenches out of his work shop 🥰, and he buys tools so he can send his grandkids home with their own.

I kept working on cleaning my mom’s antique bottles, vacuumed Stella, had a lovely visit with our neighbor to the east, finished the fan cover for Stella’s bathroom, and got a lot of little bits and pieces done that make one feel like a responsible adult. Oh, and a short nap 😁 with the cat. 🐈‍⬛
