Cat Pee

Two nights ago Panther Boy was sitting in his cat cave, a round wool kitty abode, while we were playing backgammon, and full-on peed in it. This earned him a trip to the vet today to rule out bladder or urinary tract infections. They took blood, but the cat decided to whiz in his crate on the way over, so he gets to go back Monday morning early and hang out with them until they’re able to extract a urine sample (with a hypodermic through the abdomen).

Having had a cat, many years ago, with a UTI, I am unconvinced that this is what’s going on here. Panther Boy isn’t running back and forth to his box, he’s eating and drinking normally, and most of his behavior is normal.

What’s not normal is letting go of a full bladder upstairs, trying to get on the kitchen island (increasingly) while I’m sitting right there, new, and odd vocalization, sleeping 30%ish more each day… I think he’s getting ditzy 😢. Years ago we had a cat who ended up with kitty dementia. Vocalizing was definitely part of her pattern. Like she was lost in the house she’d lived in for so long. That’s what Panther Boy is doing, when he slides into the behavior.

He’s content right now. May it ever be so.
