Cat Stats

Panther boy’s blood work and urine culture are clear. This is good news, of course. The vet said his ‘accident’ was a senior moment. I looked up kitty dementia and aside from the piddle incident, he’s exhibiting other symptoms:

  • Forgetting he’s just been fed.
  • Excessive attention needs. So much so that my DH has been calling him Puppy Cat. He follows my DH around almost constantly.
  • An uptick in sleeping. Like, hours and hours.
  • New and odd vocalizations. It’s almost like he’s forgotten where he is in the house he’s lived in for almost 14-years. We call him, which solves this most of the time.
  • Lowered filters… He’s been jumping on the kitchen island when I’m sitting right at the island. Something he’d never do 6-months ago.

The upside of all this, so far, is he’s still enjoying most of his life. And we are, unexpected piddles aside, still loving him. A girlfriend on the Island recently put her pup down. She took the time to make sure taking this step was for the dog, and not for her, incontinence being one of the dog’s most inconvenient problems. I take her careful consideration of her sweet companion’s last bit of time to heart. I really love my cat.

I am also grieving this turn of events, despite being pretty sure cat ditzies is what’s been happening for a little while. There’s been a lot of dementia happening for the last 20+ years amongst our collective elders, and I’m ready for a break.
