RIP AN

I found out today that our AN passed away on Easter Sunday. The disease he had offers no chance of hope, and it’s still hard when you get the news. It is a universal experience that knowing full well someone you care about is going to pass doesn’t lessen the pain when they do. I […]

April/May 2025 Island Trip – Day 5

It is confirmed that the washing machine works perfectly. 🙄 It’s last supposed transgression was twisting a load of sheets into knots when Mrs Tenant ran them through the washer. This precipitated Mr. Tenant telling me that he would be doing laundry at work going forward (nice to have that option). Today, during our test […]

April/May 2025 Island Trip – Day 4

Today was Much more sedate than the last three. I took the cat for a walk. He was actually amenable 😳. Chewing on grass featured big in his agenda. I discouraged this… And then he walked up a slope and addressed a fir tree. I also discouraged this 😏. He climbs a venerable fir at […]

April/May 2025 Island Trip – Day 3

The ‘big’ mowing was completed today!! I got the weed whacker restrung and took care of the the barns, Stella and her slope, and a chunk of the area around the fir to the west of the big garden. My timing was kinda perfect as it started raining in earnest when I realized it was […]

April/May 2025 Island Trip – Day 2

We took left over shepherd’s pie from last night’s diner, warmed it up and placed over easy eggs on top for breakfast. It was sublime. And then I got going… First up was to get the burn pile going. We sorted lumber that the general contractor has added to it from the deck rebuild. The […]

April/May 2025 Island Trip – Day 1

I am becoming a refrigerator jujitsu expert. We basically empty the mainland fridge upon our departure, minus condiments, plus items specifically purchased for the trip, housed in the garage fridge, and Tetris it all into Stella’s much smaller fridge. Yeah, we have the larger fridge in the barn for overflow (its teeny freezer is at […]

Wool Moth Treatment

We have turned our house inside out, exposing all baseboards possible, vacuumed, dusted (and dusted, and dusted), and now wait for the pest person to come and do the first of two anti-wool moth treatments. Once underway, we have to be out of the house for two hours. Not too bad an eviction. In a […]

Property Management…

I confess that this is not the favorite job title I have possessed in my varied career. MIL’s House: Island House:

Drier Shed

The south wall has it’s new siding installed! The rose looks a little forlorn that it’s been excluded, but we have a piece of wrought iron fence to attach to the building for the rose to grow on. I’m a fan!
