As I’ve mentioned, my father-in-law (FIL) is handling his own challenges with Lewy body dementia and, more recently diagnosed, Parkinson’s.
Monday evening we found out he’d taken a fall the previous day that my mother-in-law (MIL) was unable to help him up from. My FIL is very tall. My MIL is not. She called 911. When the EMTs arrived they, among other things, took my FIL’s temperature and discovered he had a fever. He was transported the the ER. (NOTE: My MIL takes my FILs temperature with an ear thermometer every day. Her thermometer’s calibration was incorrect. My daughter #3 had the same problem with an ear thermometer. While this is a pure knee jerk reaction my part, these instruments cost $100 a piece not long ago. Then the price, and seemingly the quality, dropped. But who knew? I think we get what we pay for… Spend enough $ on an ear thermometer so that it comes with a descent warranty. Have a backup digital thermometer in your quiver). Once in the ER, it was discovered my FIL had pneumonia. A mild case, thank God. He spent three nights in the hospital, and is now at a skilled nursing facility two miles from his and my MIL’s home. He is being kept busy with speech (for his swallow), occupational, and physical therapy. Hopefully, he will be able to return home in a couple of weeks.
To put it mildly, it’s been an intense week for us.
